Report a wrong verdict
Use the "Send feedback" button in any report. It copies a redacted report and opens the feedback page, where you review everything before sending.
System requirements
An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later. The plain-language explanation needs Apple Intelligence turned on in System Settings. Intel Macs are not supported.
Common questions
- The picture is wrong and nothing obvious is blocked. What now?
- Open the Troubleshoot tab of that monitor. It lists quick fixes, resets, steps by hand and a danger zone, gentle ones first. If the diagnosis does not ask for a reset, the button says Run anyway and the app tries it for you with the 15 second revert.
- An answer says calculated, not measured. Why?
- macOS did not report the fact directly, for example on a different Mac model or macOS version. The app works it out from the modes and numbers it does have and labels it as calculated, so you can see which part is not a measurement.
- Can my AI assistant use it?
- Yes. The command line tool
display-detective-check, its MCP server and the Shortcuts actions all use the same engine. A fix is a dry run unless it is applied on purpose, and an applied change reverts after 15 seconds unless it is kept. - The app says my cable is the problem but the cable is new.
- Many cables sold as 4K support only 60Hz or fewer lanes. The report shows what the link actually negotiated. If you disagree, send feedback with a photo of the cable markings.
- My monitor has a menu option for DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 mode.
- Turn it on. Many monitors ship with the faster mode off, and the app flags this as calculated, not measured, when it suspects it.
- What happens if my screen goes black after a change?
- Do nothing. The change reverts by itself after 15 seconds.
- Does it phone home?
- No. The signed app has no network entitlement.
